BREAKING NEWS: Montreal Canadiens Head Coach Martin St.Louis and Family Tragically Killed as Earthquake Strikes During Severe…

In a devastating turn of events, Montreal Canadiens head coach Martin St. Louis and his family have tragically died following a powerful earthquake that struck late Friday night amidst a severe storm in the Quebec region.

Authorities confirm that the 49-year-old former NHL star and Hall of Famer was at his family’s countryside home outside Montreal when a rare magnitude 6.2 earthquake, coupled with torrential rains and strong winds, hit the area around 11:43 PM. Emergency responders arrived on the scene early Saturday morning, but officials say the home had collapsed entirely, leaving no survivors.

“This is a heartbreaking day for the Canadiens organization, for hockey, and for all of Canada,” said Geoff Molson, owner and president of the Montreal Canadiens. “Martin was not only a brilliant coach and player, but also a loving father, husband, and friend to many. We are all in shock.”

St. Louis, who took over as head coach of the Canadiens in 2022, had been widely praised for revitalizing the team with his leadership and dedication. His wife, Heather, and their three sons were known to be close-knit and involved in community efforts both in Quebec and the U.S.

Natural Resources Canada reported that the earthquake’s epicenter was located just north of the Laurentians, a region not typically known for seismic activity of this magnitude. The storm had already caused flooding and power outages across parts of the province, complicating emergency responses.

NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman issued a statement early this morning expressing deep sorrow: “The loss of Martin St. Louis and his beloved family is unfathomable. He was a fierce competitor and an even better human being. The entire NHL community mourns today.”

Tributes have been pouring in from players, fans, and figures across the hockey world. Vigils are being organized throughout Montreal, including one outside the Bell Centre, where fans have begun laying flowers and Canadiens memorabilia.

This tragic incident comes as the region braces for further aftershocks and continued severe weather throughout the weekend. Authorities urge residents in affected areas to remain indoors and follow emergency guidelines.

Further details will be released as investigations and rescue efforts continue. The Canadiens have postponed all team activities until further notice.
