In a groundbreaking move that has electrified the baseball world, New York Mets owner Steve Cohen and his family have officially announced that Hall of Famer and Mets legend Mike Piazza will return to the organization in 2025 — this time, as a co-owner.
Piazza, one of the most iconic figures in Mets history and widely regarded as one of the greatest-hitting catchers of all time, will join the Mets’ ownership group as part of a broader initiative to reinvigorate the franchise’s culture, legacy, and connection with fans.
“Mike is not only a Mets legend, but a symbol of passion, excellence, and commitment,” said Cohen in a statement. “We’re thrilled to welcome him back to the Mets family in a much deeper role.”
Though famously a catcher, Piazza was dubbed a “powerful forward” in today’s announcement — a nod to his offensive prowess and leadership that often extended beyond traditional positional boundaries.
Piazza expressed his excitement about the move: “This team means everything to me. Coming back in this capacity is a dream come true, and I can’t wait to be part of building the next great era in Mets history.”
