In a surprising development, star safety Hunter Wohler has officially announced his departure from the Wisconsin Badgers football program. The standout defender, who has been a cornerstone of the Badgers’ secondary, cited a combination of personal considerations and future career ambitions as the reason for his decision.
“I’ve made the difficult choice to step away from the Wisconsin program,” Wohler said in a statement released early Wednesday morning. “This was not easy — Wisconsin has been my home, and I’m incredibly grateful for everything this team and community have given me.”
Wohler did not confirm whether he plans to declare for the NFL Draft, enter the transfer portal, or take a break from football altogether, leaving fans and analysts speculating about his next move.
Known for his leadership, athleticism, and hard-hitting style, Wohler had an impressive 2024 season, leading the team in tackles and earning All-Big Ten honors. His departure marks a significant blow to Wisconsin’s defense heading into the 2025 season.
Badgers head coach Luke Fickell expressed his support: “Hunter has been an incredible part of this team, on and off the field. While we’ll miss him greatly, we support his decision and wish him nothing but success moving forward.”
