In an inspiring act of generosity and community leadership, Florida basketball star Alijah Martin has announced a $4.5 million investment to convert a private property in Miami into a state-of-the-art shelter for homeless youth.
The facility, which will be named “Martin House of Hope,” is expected to open by early 2026 and will provide housing, counseling, education support, and career training for vulnerable young people aged 16–24. Martin, known for his electrifying performances on the court, said the decision was driven by his own experiences growing up and his desire to give back.
“This is about more than basketball,” Martin stated at a press conference Friday morning. “It’s about creating real change and giving these kids the safety and tools they need to thrive.”
The shelter will accommodate up to 80 residents and will partner with local nonprofits to offer holistic services, including mental health support and job placement programs.
City officials and community leaders have praised Martin’s initiative, calling it a “game-changer” for Miami’s efforts to combat youth homelessness.
