In a stunning turn of events, Purdue men’s basketball icon Zach Edey has made a major announcement that has sent shockwaves through the Boilermakers community and beyond.
Edey, the 7-foot-4 phenom and back-to-back National Player of the Year, revealed today that he will forgo his final year of college eligibility to declare for the 2025 NBA Draft — a decision that caught fans and even head coach Matt Painter completely off guard.
“I’ve poured my heart into this program, and Purdue will always be home,” Edey said during a press conference held at Mackey Arena. “But after a lot of thought, prayer, and conversations with my family, I’ve decided it’s time to take the next step in my journey.”
Coach Painter, visibly emotional, struggled to find words. “I knew this day might come, but I didn’t expect it now,” he said. “Zach changed the culture of this team. He’s one of the greatest to ever wear a Purdue jersey.”
The announcement comes just weeks after Edey led Purdue to the Final Four for the first time in decades, solidifying his legacy as a Boilermaker legend.
