In a move that signals the Houston Texans’ commitment to building around rising star quarterback C.J. Stroud, ESPN has confirmed that the team has finalized a deal with former Pro Bowl wide receiver Tyler Lockett. The veteran pass-catcher joins the Texans on a reported two-year, $18 million contract, with $11 million guaranteed.
Lockett, 32, brings nearly a decade of NFL experience and a reputation for reliability, route-running precision, and clutch playmaking. A cornerstone of the Seattle Seahawks’ receiving corps for years, Lockett recorded over 7,500 receiving yards and 58 touchdowns during his tenure in the Pacific Northwest. Known for his chemistry with quarterbacks and sharp football IQ, his presence is expected to be invaluable to the Texans’ young offense.
“This is more than just adding a playmaker,” said an anonymous league source. “It’s about giving C.J. Stroud a seasoned mentor on the field — someone who knows how to get open, how to lead, and how to win.”
Stroud, entering his sophomore season, showed flashes of brilliance in his rookie campaign, but the Texans’ receiving group struggled with consistency. Lockett’s arrival adds a proven target and locker room leader to complement emerging talents like Nico Collins and Tank Dell.
Texans General Manager Nick Caserio emphasized the importance of experience and leadership in the team’s continued rebuild. “Tyler’s professionalism and production speak for themselves. He’s a perfect fit for the culture we’re building.”
Lockett also expressed his excitement about the new chapter: “Houston’s energy is incredible right now. C.J. is the real deal, and I can’t wait to be a part of what’s coming together here.”
The Texans are expected to continue making strategic moves this offseason as they look to contend in the AFC South and beyond.
